NeurOptimal® promotes a flexible-and-resilient mindset, empowering your personal transformation. This innovative form of neurofeedback is not a medical treatment, but instead is a TRAINING for the brain. It does not require diagnosis, but rather it dances micro-second by micro-second with your brain offering it the information it needs to RE-ORGANIZE ITSELF. And when your brain does that, a whole lot of complaints drop away. You feel calmer, clearer, happier and able to function better in your life. The software has been developed by Val and Sue Brown (Zengar Institute, Canada), both clinical psychologists with a long track record in neurofeedback.

Though based in technology, neurofeedback is a 100% non-invasive, drug-free, brain training system that helps the central nervous system (CNS) make the best use of your brain’s natural resources. NeurOptimal® brain training works with the central nervous system (CNS) and brain’s activity that can undermine optimal brain function. It is assisting the brain and CNS to operate according to its own natural potential. It is kind a like mindfulness for the brain.

The effects of neurofeedback

The effects are visible in different areas; phsyical, mental and emotional.

  • Inner peace. Living in the present moment. Neuroptimal® is also called Mindfulness for the central nervous system. To be relaxed. To stay close to who you are without being influenced by what others might think or do. It also increases your natural resilience.

    How does it work?

    A NeurOptimal® session takes about 33 minutes and the training is effortless. During the training you sit or lie in a comfortable chair or sofa. Two sensors are placed on your scalp and three sensors on the ears. The EEG sensors job is to read electrical signals or brainwaves coming from your brain – nothing goes back into your brain through the sensors. Through the headphones (or from the tablet's built-in speakers) one listens to music which is the platform for the feedback.

    As soon as there is disbalance or instability in your brain wave pattern, the Neuroptimal® software creates a micro-interruption in the music, which you may notice as a skipping record sound. It signals to you to pay attention to what’s going on. Through the training you are learning to use information better rather than staying stuck in your habitual patterns.

    Each brain is unique and knows how to correct itself to function as efficient as possible. The brain decides if and how it wants to change. It’s able to reorganize itself and to let go of old, non-efficient patterns. Your brain uses its self-regulatory capacity and trains towards optimal functioning.

    The training is non-invasive. That means, nothing goes into the brain through the sensors, they are only there for measuring. Children can read a book or play while they listen to the music, or they can watch a movie in which the software interrupts the movie for microseconds. Children often enjoy the sessions and report to feel really calm afterwards. With regular training it can be an effective support for school, boost their self-esteem, enhance their understanding and focus, and help with emotional regulation.

    Life Optimal also offers a combination of neurofeedback training and coaching. Together we discuss what you would want to improve and what your goals are. In the light of these goals we can observe the occurring changes.

    How many neurofeedback sessions do you need?

    Since every brain is unique, and your brain is in charge, we can’t predict how many sessions of neurofeedback you will want or need. In my experience, average is around 10-20 sessions, but some people get what they came for and had it be lasting change in as few as 6 or 8 sessions. In the beginning it can be helpful to come once a week or even twice a week. What suits you best. Normally people stop with the neurofeedback training when their goals are being reached. The good thing is you can stop at any time and always pick it up again later if you so choose. A lot of people come back for a sort of maintenance sessions to remind the brain of its most efficient performance. The neurofeedback training sessions are available in separate sessions and in packages of multiple sessions (See Rates).

    For anyone with a brain, both children and adults. Whether you want to improve your concentration, experience more relaxation or want to perform better, it does not matter. Neurofeedback is for everyone.
